04 March 2218: GSW to abdomen, thigh

  • Patient admitted with GSW to abdomen (critical) and thigh (superficial).
  • Thigh injury determined to be flesh wound, superficial. Complicated by fact that bullet remained inside wound. Following x-ray and consultation, decision made to leave bullet in thigh.
  • Severe trauma to abdomen & surrounding tissues incl intestines. Stabilized and received successful reparative surgery.
  • Placed in amn. tube for 12hrs, in order to raise chances of survival to acceptable level. After 12hr session, reconsider and review treatment options. In-patient RnR if tubes unavailable, otherwise consider extra tube sessions for expedited recovery.
  • Prescription: penicillin 500mg 4x pd., 500mg paracetamol+9.6g codeine, loperamide, nutritional supplements
